Mapping and Delineating the Watershed

Updated: Dec 6, 2023

The Edmonds Marsh Watershed encompasses part of the downtown area and more residential areas, including major roadways such as Edmonds Way, which connects to a popular ferry terminal. It is located within the City of Edmonds and the Town of Woodway, both of which are within Snohomish County in Washington State. The marsh's main tributaries are Shelleberger Creek and Willow Creek, in addition to water from the Harbor Square complex immediately next to the marsh which runs directly into the marsh (Edmonds Marsh, n.d.). Shelleberger Creek is a highly developed creek, as it runs through the downtown area and includes piped portions. Willow Creek is in a more natural state and supports a hatchery.

A rough delineation of the watershed is shown below.

Based off of this delineation, the Edmonds Marsh Watershed is approximately 1.22 square miles and runs in elevation from about sea level up to 400 ft. The City of Edmonds has also mapped its watersheds, incorporating knowledge of their stormwater systems. For further viewing, this map is available at this site with areas in teal blue making up the Edmonds Marsh watershed.
